Inclusiveness statement
The STAR Centre is committed to providing a space which feels (and is) safe for all survivors (13+) irrespective of their gender identity, sexuality, ethnicity, age, disability, sex, religion or gender reassignment.
If there is anything we can do to make our service or our centre feel safer to you, please let us know and we will do our best to accommodate.
Single-Sex Spaces
On Mondays 9am-4pm and Wednesday mornings 9am-12pm The STAR Centre offers a single-sex space for those who identify as women and whose biological sex is female. This is specifically for those who prefer to receive support in a space without there being men present. Anyone who wants access to a single-sex space outside of these times can contact us and we will do our best to accommodate.
This is a useful aspect of our service delivery, as it ensures that the person receives support in a space which is safe for them. Those who do not identify as women or are not comfortable attending at these times, are welcome to access the service at any other time.
LGBTQIA+ Inclusion
Scottish LGBTI+ Rainbow Mark
As of May 2024, the STAR Centre has signed up to the Scottish LGBTI+ Rainbow Mark. The 5 principles of the LGBTI+ Rainbow Mark are:
- We are committed to creating a welcoming and inclusive place for our LGBTI+ service users and maintaining best practice.
- We want our LGBTI+ staff to be able to be themselves at work, to feel valued and protected.
- We will be visible in our support, and use respectful and inclusive language, helping everyone to feel comfortable.
- We have zero tolerance for discriminatory language or behaviour.
- We are committed to understanding the needs of LGBTI+ people.
LGBT Youth Scotland Charter
In 2022 the STAR Centre was awarded the Silver LGBT Charter by LGBT Youth Scotland. It is our hope that having this charter accreditation will ensure that survivors identifying as LGBT+ feel that they can contact us with confidence, in the knowledge that they will be fully included, valued and supported.
If you identify as LGBTQIA+ and have experienced any type of sexual violence, we will support you. You can contact us online, or call us on 01563 544686.
Survivor’s Only Organisation
Please note we are a charity for survivors only. If you have been accused of, or charged with, any crime of gender-based or sexual violence we will not be able to support you. If you disclose, or we become aware through any other means, that you have been accused of, or charged with, a crime of gender-based or sexual violence your support with the STAR Centre will be stopped and we will signpost you to other organisations who may be able to help.
